The English Congregation identifies Thailand and Cambodia as their mission grounds. Missionaries were sent out to Cambodia and Thailand throughout the years and yearly mission trips were organized to support the missionaries and their missions in these two countries.
Dear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we wake up to a new year, amidst all the celebrations, and realise that another year has yet passed, let us not neglect looking back and recounting all that God has done in and through our lives. How has God shown Himself to you in the past year? As we persevere through struggles and strive past challenges, as we share joyful times and bear sad times, as we step into the unknown and stretch beyond our comfort threshold, let us always hold fast to the unchanging, steadfast One, for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock (Isaiah 26:4b).
Do you believe that God cares for you as an individual, and that He wants the best for you? I am certain He does! My personal experience is this – in the past year, God has blessed me with love through the people around me when I least expected it. God gave me god-mothers to love, care and pray for me while God Himself is now watching over my mum. It was God’s way of reassuring and comforting me, teaching me to trust Him because He is holding me in the palm of His Hand. The same is true for you too!
Wrapping Up 2017
The last couple of weeks of December was a busy but fulfilling time. Opportunities opened to serve new ministries and churches. I had the privilege of serving as a translator for a team from The People's Bible Church (Singapore) that came on their regular mission trip to visit the ministries that they had planted, conduct a discipleship seminar for the local Thai believers, and celebrate Christmas with two local villages. It was refreshing to serve alongside Singaporeans who are like-minded and have a heart for missions and discipleship!
The Christmas season also brought with it the annual celebrations at the Shan church with adult and children Christmas celebrations. It was a good time catching up with both the growing up Shan kids and youths and also some of the families that I had built relationships with whilst I was serving in Maesai before.
Partnering with another ministry in Maesai, we also had the opportunity to organise a fun large-scale Christmas carnival for the Mok people group. This particular village that was targeted has 108 families. This is a new targeted people group that is not listed online nor is there any info available about them. They had the opportunity to hear the Gospel message illustrated in a simple manner. Pray for the Mok people group that the seed of the Gospel will take root in their lives. God knows who they are!
Even as we believers use this season of Christmas to share about God's best gift to us and leave with hearts full that we have done our part in the Great Commission, I know for me that God is doing something bigger in my heart. He has rekindled in me again the desire and longing to go back out into the community, to live among and to build relationships with the locals. I want to be intentional about this in the coming year! I realised that I can be operating in my own comfort zone even while I was serving in YWAM (Youth with A Mission) and I am sure God did not call me to self-centredness. It certainly was not a coincidence that God led me to these programs at the end of 2017 and again showed me HIS HEART for the lost! Pray alongside with me as I seek God's heart and leading to be more proactive in local community involvement.
Entering into 2018
Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths.
Rather train yourself for godliness;
for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way,
as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance.
For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
Command and teach these things.
Let no one despise you for your youth,
but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
~ 1 Timothy 4：7-13
EQUIPPING AND GROWING
B2B Leadership Seminar
B2B is an intensive leadership training program designed for those who have a desire to grow as a leader, in order to equip others. The program seeks to provide practical steps in leadership development through different interactive teaching styles.
TITUS Project is dedicated to training church leaders throughout the world in the Word of God. It is a program designed to develop students in communication skills and equip them for teaching and preaching on the mission field, afterwhich they can be mobilized to where Bible teaching is greatly needed.
This is what the first quarter of the year will look like for me! I am excited for these times of equipping and growing in my life as a preparation for the year ahead and beyond! I also feel that this year will be particularly crucial to my future in serving God, whether in Thailand or in another nation.
School of Biblical Studies (SBS)
April 2018 - February 2019
As I have shared previously, God has placed upon my heart to staff the SBS, which is a nine-month school that focuses on inductive Bible study. This will be a bilingual Thai-English school, the first of its own to bring the Bible teaching in full to the Thais!
My role as a staff will see me teaching various books of the Bible, grading assignments in Thai, and reading through the whole Bible again!
2018 will be an intentional year of equipping, growing and stepping out in another aspect of serving God - a teaching role. So it is not a coincidence that I have been struggling with feelings of inadequacy and fear of not meeting expectations that are placed upon me. I have questioned myself countless times whether I am suited for the ministry commitments. The challenges and struggles are real but I want to choose to be obedient and overcome these obstacles, not by my own strength and wisdom, but with God's.
But he said to me,
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses,
so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships,
persecutions, and calamities.
For when I am weak, then I am strong."
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Faith and Finances
As the year begins, I embark on another faith adventure with the Lord. I am grateful to all of you who have committed to come alongside in my missions journey through your sacrificial giving and prayers. It is really an encouragement to me to have all of you partner with me, making sacrifices of your own, so that many more may hear the gospel.
Indeed, one of my biggest thanksgiving is experiencing God's faithful Hand in providing for my financial needs, through the love and sacrificial giving of friends and family. It has been a lesson of learning to trust God in new ways, patience in waiting upon the Lord for His providence and growing in humility in ever-increasing dependence upon Him. I have experienced numerous surprises from the Lord, and also encountered obedience of God's people that never ceases to amaze me. I am indeed excited for this adventure that God is leading me into and I am sure that His faithfulness will prevail!
Partner with me!
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and denominations, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. We unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known.
"YWAM is called to practise a life of dependence upon God for financial provision. This comes primarily through God's people. We give of ourselves, our time and talents to God through the mission with no expectation of remuneration."
This is a foundational value of YWAM, to which the mission holds in high regard. Hence, YWAM adopted a relationship-based approach to missions: everyone is required to raise their own support, primarily through enlisting of friends, families and churches in order to serve with the mission. YWAMers do not receive payment of salary for their work with YWAM.
This approach serves two purposes. Firstly, it creates a trust and dependence on God for His provision. Secondly, it creates opportunities to involve other like-minded believers to partner with those in full-time ministry.
As a staff of YWAM, I too live out this value. Serving God and being in YWAM Chiang Rai for the past seven years has a been a journey of faith and trusting God for each step that He calls me to. I am thankful for God's provision for me throughout this time. While I have had the privilege of being fully supported by my home church over the past couple of years, God is now calling me to take another step of faith to learn and to grow!
From January 2018, I am no longer receiving full financial support from my home church. As a YWAM staff, I will be trusting God to raise up a team of prayer & financial supporters to join me on this missions journey! May I invite you to prayerfully consider coming alongside me?
I am trusting God to raise SGD$2,700 monthly to cover living expenses, visa and work permit costs, insurance costs etc. Feel free to contact me if you want to know more about my work and calling into missions.

With my grandniece, Athena
After all the festive celebrations have come to an end and you return to the routine of daily life, think about the one thing that you want to be intentional about in your life this year. As I have shared, I want to be intentional about reaching out into the community and building relationships with the locals. Ask God about it if you do not know. He wants you and He wants your heart! As it is written in Colossians 3:2, set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
